Google Search Console And Its Verification Methods

Google Search Console

Google Search Console (formerly known as google webmasters tool) is one among the basic tool used in the process of SEO. It is a free resource given by Google which helps to monitor the results of SEO activities and reports the issues of a website verified in Search Console.

Search console enables the website to practice SEO in a controlled form. It helps to point out the defects of a webpage such as the loading problems, device compatibility issues and broken links which will have a negative impact on the website.

Now we can look on How to Verify a Blogpost blog using Search Console.

First copy the URL of the blog and go to the Search Console. Type Google search console or google.com/webmasters/tools to get into the Search Console. Then login to the Google Account using the same Gmail id used to create the blog to Auto Verify. Otherwise the verification process must be done.

Reaching the Search Console we can see two option available for verification : Domain and URL Prefix. Since this is a blog address it is a subdomain so choose the 'URL prefix' option. Paste the copied URL and click 'Continue'. Then we come to the Verification Process and a popup will show that the Ownerships Auto Verified since we have used the same Gmail id. Click on 'Go to Property' and press the 'URL Inspection' option. Paste the copied URL of the blog and hit 'Enter'. Then Google will crawl the page and show whether it is Available or not. If the URL is shown as Unavailable click the 'Test Live' button and now it will show that the URL is available to Google. Then click on  'Request Indexing' and the page will be crawled.

Now go the blog address and add '/sitemap.xml' and hit 'Enter'. The Site Map xml file will be opened which is technically an important file submitted to Google in the process of SEO. Copy only the 'sitemap.xml text and again come to the Search Console. Click 'Sitemaps' and paste the copied URL then hit 'Submit'.

Site map is basically a xml document used in the process of SEO. It contains all the URLs related to the website, last modified date, change frequency, priorities etc. By submitting this file in Google, it can easily crawl and cache the website.

Google Search Console Verification

Now lets see the different Verification Methods when logged into Search Console with a different Gmail id.

Google uses 5 methods to verify a website in Google search console:

1. HTML file

It is the recommended verification method. Firstly download the HTML file provided by Google and upload it into the root directory of the website. Then the verification process will be done. However it cannot be done in Blogger as the blogpost blog created is a Subdomain and its root access is not available.
